God is on the move at Hope Women’s Center!!  We have been very busy!  More and more homeless ladies are finding us and we able to offer them a shower, clean clothes and a hot meal. Often we feel challenged and inadequate when people come to us in crisis, possibly in an abusive relationship, their child is using drugs, they are addicted to drugs or alcohol,  homelessness, grief and so much more. But feeling inadequate draws us to the One who can handle any crisis. Many times we pray for a solution, a quick fix, a way to stop their hurting right now!  The One who knows all and sees all has a plan and sometimes that plan is a slow and healing journey. He wants more then just a quick fix, but a change in the on going cycle.  This cycle has been the root of all their decisions, their will, and the emotions that have driven them for a very long time. That’s why Hope Women’s Center is here!  Yes, we are here to help them get out of any immediate danger, but we are NOT a band-aid! As we engage, encourage, and equip them by providing support for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, we see the transforming power of our Lord!

Client Story

Client K came into our center homeless.  She was fleeing from a very abusive relationship in another state.  After enduring years of extreme abuse she decided to leave and come to Coolidge, where her father lived before passing several years ago.  When Client K stepped off the bus she began to search for places that would help women and found Hope Women’s Center.  Client K felt like her ex-husband was able to track her and she had great fear he was going to show up in Coolidge. She said, “If it wasn’t for God I know I wouldn’t be alive. I just don’t understand where God went.  Why would He leave me??”

We were able to get Client K into a shelter where she stayed one week and then showed up at our center again.  It is very hard for her to trust anyone and she really felt like everyone was going to hurt her in some way.  Not trusting anyone for food or shelter she chose not to eat anything we offered her and to sleep on the streets.  Each day the center was open Client K was there.  She would sit in the front lobby and watch us.  This went on for 2 weeks.  Last Tuesday she decided to come into our worship class and we immediately saw a change in her attitude towards us.  She said to me, “I can trust this place, you have done nothing but care for me – physically by letting me shower, giving me clean clothes, and trying to feed me; emotionally by taking the time out every day to sit and talk with me; and spiritually by praying with me.  No one has ever done that for me. You didn’t expect anything from me you accepted me and cared for me just as I am.”  Client K attended classes and has eaten lunch with us all week! The Lord never left her, and we are so excited she found her way back to Him!

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.  Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1Peter 4:10-11
